Co-location
Fibrewales offers co-location services from within two facilities within Manchester and from facilities in London, key locations on the internet backbone within the United Kingdom.
We offer a broad range of data centre and connectivity services meeting the needs of an organisation's requirements for connectivity, security and scalability. The data centre facilities from which Fibrewales are located are specially designed technical facilities which operate with a number of sophisticated features to offer high levels of physical and environmental resilience.
Available options
The service options we offer range from individual rack units to thousands of square feet. From within the data centres we operate we can provide managed services that include:
Benefits and features
Security
Access to our servers is tightly controlled by both electronic and biometric means, through a system of airlocks and secured areas. Entry to the data centre requires both of these means as well as a final visual check before any person can gain entry to equipment. Once in the data centre, activity is recorded around the clock.
Power
Power is supplied to the data centre from diverse locations and is backed up with multiple standby generators.
Generator back-up @ N+1
UPS system - redundant parallel formation @ N+1
Close control downflow air conditioning units to guarantee stable temperature and humidity @ N+1
2 independent AC systems DX & chilled water @ N+1
UPS conditioned power @ N+1
Diverse Power Supplies with diesel generator backup
Connectivity
In addition to space and power Fibrewales can offer connectivity to multiple carriers either from our own network comprising high quality IP transit from multiple tier 1 carriers or from a choice of carriers located from within these facilities either supplied by us or directly under your own arrangements with them.
Connectivity options from Fibrewales
CDR based billing
This is billed according to 95th percentile rules, and has the benefit of burst to 100Mbps to cope with peaks in your bandwidth needs.
You choose your CDR and you will be billed at your normal fixed rate and the amount you pay for your burst traffic.
Fixed rate billing
You choose your line speed and are billed at this rate. You are unable to burst beyond that speed without contacting us and opting for a higher bandwidth rate.
This option allows you to control your costs without incurring excess bandwidth charges.
Our preference is to bill by CDR as this ensures that your bandwidth remains flexible and that your services is not hampered should you need to meet sudden demand at short notice.
IP Addressing
Charges are not made for IP addresses to transit customers however we do require that IP address usage is justified according to RIPE regulations.
Transit Options
We are able to deliver full or partial transit depending on your preference and so can provide either our own transit mix or via default route to any one of our transit providers or via policy based routing. BGP4, static and dynamic routing are available.
Monitoring and statistics
As well as our own 24x7x365 monitoring we provide real-time portal access to graphing of your current and past bandwidth usage enabling you to plan your usage.
Service Level Agreement
We operate a 99.999% network SLA with penalty clauses if we fail to deliver accordingly.

A WARNING TO CUSTOMERS
North Wales does not yet have a true Tier 1, Tier 2 or even Tier 3 data centre facility with truly redundant and resilient power, cooling and bandwidth, despite the claims of some companies located within the area. Recently we have seen more and more of these claims as businesses surface to provide service over the Fibrespeed network within North Wales.
This misrepresentation flies in the face of the ethical approach we and the Internet Engineering Ltd group have adopted as part of our business. This is not sour grapes on our part, but an attempt to prevent what we see as shady practices by unscrupulous operators.
Fibrewales therefore does not provide co-location facilities within North Wales at present as it is simply not possible to guarantee the high quality of service that our clients deserve and we demand. Should sufficient demand surface and should we be in a position to provide such a facility at that time we may consider opening one however we wish to be clear.
Note that Fibrewales do not make false or misleading claims to own or operate our own data centres either within Wales or elsewhere within the UK, nor do we attempt to class local server rooms as data centres as these cannot possibly match the requirements of organisations looking for truly robust, secure and resilient facilities.
We do however operate within facilities operated independently by leaders in carrier neutral, high availability data centre facilities in the UK.
The reason we locate our equipment within third party data centres and not in our own buildings are that we recognise the multi million pounds of investment that has been poured into the facilities we have chosen, which are second to none.
This is the same approach used by a large number of hosting providers who provide services ranging from budget-oriented shared hosting solutions, to high-end dedicated services geared toward mission critical applications.
Unlike many hosting providers that use custom DNS and evasive advertising to hide the fact that they co-locate, we do not try to hide this, nor claim "our own data centres" and believe that this is the best strategy for Fibrewales to deliver service at this time. To this end we have located our equipment at both locations in our own private areas and racks within these world class facilities.
Engineers are based on site to ensure the fastest response should any physical intervention be required at any time.
Maintaining our equipment in these centres allows us to do what we do best: develop and support targeted hosting products, while our data centre providers do what they do best: operate world class data centres. It is a logical partnership that creates a win-win-win situation for our customers.
